Let's just pretend I haven't been missing for months...
This. Just. Happened.
The first loose and pulled tooth in the life of Hayley.
And I didn't fall out.
Y'all, I don't do teeth. I didn't do my own teeth. They would have to basically fall completely out on their own. Not even exaggerating.
So she's been quite content to gross me out for almost a week since she figured out it would wiggle and I would gag. Disgusting.
But today, today when her daddy was far away with no cell phone... it decided it was coming out. (Obviously she's her mama's child in getting her money's worth of the loose-ness)
And I pulled it. And she didn't melt down. And I didn't throw up or faint or both.
So its a win-win all around.
Except... how did she get old enough for this?
As I looked at her new gap I saw that the next tooth over already has a permanent tooth breaking through the gums, so looks like we are in the teeth season for real.
How did this happen so quickly?

A Look Back: Hayley in 2013
Hayley's Year
This year Hayley turned 5! She is in Kindergarten - complete with a "Bag of Books" for reading each night and a 5-word spelling test on most Fridays. This year she decided to not take dance, instead taking gymnastics this fall and playing t-ball this spring. This year has been challenging as she transitions out of the "little kid" phase into more independence. Hayley asks a million questions a day, is very curious and observant. Our ability to spell secrets is no longer viable for most small words - especially D-O-G-S! Still anxious by nature, she's high energy, high impact and its all or nothing! In an unexpected twist, shows no fear for amusement park rides or trampolines. She rode the Tilt-A-Whirl and all the "kid" rides at Pier Park this summer. Her first instinct on a trampoline was to do a front flip in the air, no hands. She's mastered her cartwheel, landing on her feet more times than not. She enjoys making up songs or creating her own lyrics which may or may not include any of the original words (much like her daddy). Hayley is still SUPER picky about food and may or may not eat at any given time - but has a HUGE sweet tooth! She told me once, "I'm hungry... can I have some gum??" She loves to play imaginary games of school, dance, swim lessons, etc. - but only when she's the boss! She loves wearing swimsuits, high heels.. or when at home, nothing but underwear! She's learn to sound out most words and is practicing writing sentences and making "books." She's strong as an ox - despite her small size! She managed to knock a flu shot needle out of the nurses hand (and scratch her leg) this fall - requiring 3 adults to hold her while she screamed bloody murder in the doctor's office. (And the flu shot was a must have, she's gotten flu the past 2 years and ended up in the ER once, and the hospital once.. so no more chances without the shot). She also loves to tell stories and is a very animated story teller - sometimes, she has trouble distinguishing between her imagination and reality. She is really wanting her hair to be long like Rapunzel, and its finally reached her shoulders.

a glimpse of a day, far far away!
Yesterday, I brought my veil inside where I had loaned it to another bride-to-be. I laid it on the couch, because really, who actually unloads things from their car and actually puts them in their place immediately??
And Hayley asked what it was... this child has watched our wedding DVD at least 5 times and been to several weddings, so, she gets it... so I did what any good mommy does... say "Do you want to try it on?" and then ran for my camera.
I've seen a growing trend of mama's letting their little girls have a photo session in their wedding dresses and veils as a special treat for their daughters - but what I really think is that's a special treat much more for the mama's. And I'm good with that!
So I took the girls into the bathroom so they could see the mirror... and too quickly, my future flashed before my eyes.
I think we're going to have to find a pretty place to take some photos, some more natural light, and drag out the dress... these girls steal my heart.

School Begins
Tomorrow marks the end of the first week for Hayley-girl. This is what we've learned from her this week:
Her nap mat is on the ABC rug. Some people sleep on the play rug, but her's in one the ABC rug.
They eat snack in the hallway. Always.
They don't teach letters and numbers at this school. (ha, can't wait to tell her teacher that!)
Some of the girls have beads in their hair, and its so pretty! One has all colors and one has silver and white.
On Tuesday, child1 wanted to hold her hand on the playground but she didn't want to. (so I told her to tell the other child "no thank you" or "i don't want to do that") But she and child2 did hold hands while they were playing because they wanted to! (she was so serious that I almost fell out of my seat trying not to laugh at this dilemna)
The woodchips from the playground kept getting in her "school shoes" and making them big.

somebody is making this up... but not me!
So, MeMaw has come up a lot in conversation this week.
On Tuesday, Hayley told me that "MeMaw was coming to Tyler & Tanner's birthday... but that her birthday was July 1st...and she was gonna be FOR-TY (yes, she emphasised that)." So I just had to ask what MeMaw looked like "Gray hair...but longer than yours Mama... all the way down to her knees." uh huh. ok.
Then today, I got the following text from Michael:
"Hayley and MeMaw saw a chicken horse the other day. They are mean according to Hayley. Bowen's response to the story is "awwww man!"
like, not another Memaw story!
We agree Bowen, we agree.

Hayley's MeMaw
So I know its pretty normal for kids with active imaginations to have imaginary friends and get totally wrapped up in their imaginary world...but my kid, she's thrown us a loop on this...
She has a imaginary MeMaw!
Yes, seriously! And its not because she's short on grandparents... she's got both sets of grandparents, 1 full set of great-grandparents and 2 great-grandmothers... she's not lacking in the grandparent realm at all.
But yet, she has an imaginary MeMaw.... this is what we know about her:
She lives in Florida.
Her name is Martha.
She has a pony and a pink castle.
She lets Hayley have bubblegum for breakfast.
And her stories go "Well, my Memaw lets me." or "At my MeMaw's house, I can...."
It is seriously the funniest thing EVER... we have NO idea where she is getting all this, but evidently Memaw's house is where everything is right in Hayley-world!
She has even had a breakdown about "I wannnnntttt myyyyy MeeeMaw!!!!"
Its insanity!

Girl Mama
Hey there! My name is Meghan and I'm a GIRL mama! Meet my two littles...
Bowen (almost 2)
Hayley (almost 4)
(girls are 22 months, 4 days apart)
While I am already afraid of what the teenage years may bring us (because the sass and the attitude and the tears...oh the tears that can plague their little hearts now... will only continue I'm sure!)
Everyone tells me I "need" a boy... but I've got FOUR nephews which gives me plenty of high energy high-level boy exposure. And I know it sounds weird, but girl speed works for me. Boys, there is something special there with them and their mamas, but woah do they wear me out!
Part of it is probably that I'm from a girl family... just me and a sister. And 60% of all my first cousins (there are 13 of us) are female, so boys have just always been the minority for me!
All opinions aside (because everyone has their own... and I know where their Breezy stands in that there should just be MORE children, regardless of gender!)... I love being a girl mama.
Its the only kind of mama I know to be!
(click on labels below to see more posts on the girls.. and the explanation for their nicknames!)

hayley-ism
Last night, at 10:30 p.m., when its way past her bedtime and she's in pinball mode strapped into her carseat on the way home..
in the sweetest little voice
Thank you God as this day ends (and thank you Boz for teaching this prayer)
For my family and my friends...
Taking time to sit and pray,
Thank you God for this great day
... and thank you for Breezy and Big Dave's house
...and thank you for the trip that Mama & Daddy wouldn't let me go on!
insert shocked mama face
Real Story: We were going shopping in Dothan. We asked the girls if they wanted to go with us or stay at Breezy's... they chose Breezy's, twice! So she wasn't told she couldn't go, ever!!
I can't believe that the 3-year old is dropping loaded prayers!!!

and you there
Hayley,
Stop growing up so darn fast. Except for the part where you grow out of the complete meltdown of a mess stage that has come with being 3. I mean, I know you are 110% girl and some of that will never go away, but some of it, some of it we could do without. But overall, stop looking like a little girl and return to being Mama's baby face.
P.S. Didn't Breezy do a great job on your turkey shirts? Even though all you and your sister's rough housing have their feathers all ruffled by this point!

Spirit Week
Cowgirl Day
Senior Citizen Day (and no she didn't wear her pink sunglasses to school)
80s Day
Professional Day (she has no idea what "when you grow up" means)
Homecoming T-shirt day... also known as, refusal to get off the stroller that is still parked inside the house from Wednesday because I can't figure out how to fold it down without losing my temper day and trying to get pictures otherwise also result in meltdown of small child day

Three little monkeys...
Saturday, October 15
Evidently, we've lost our minds...
There is a fish in a trifle dish on our table...
We had ring pops...ALL over us and our new carseat....
We said "yes" to going on an adventure...
And spent last night with a Mouse...but not close to the real mouse, that would be too much
but the treats were fun, fun, fun!

bouncing back...slowly
So as you may know, my last rising to Internet connection related to surviving the virus, version 10.2.2011
To say that it caused a major default in my activity level, including blogging, would be a major understatement. I am JUST NOW getting to the point where I actually want to eat and want to get anything accomplished. And, as a side note, I have JUST NOW finally finished putting up all the loads of clothes made possible by the virus. Yes, I am that good of a housekeeper. You're welcome for your dose of reality.
I've got pictures forth coming from our two adventures last week... Hayley's class went to the fire station (and trust me, that warrants a post in itself) and we also spent a few hours at the local Kolomoki Festival, because if nothing else, my Mama installed in me the need to attend all local festivals during the months of October and November, because its just what you do...and that is logic enough. (even though Michael doesn't always share the logical aspect of my argument).
Also, in synopsis (which I hope I spelled right), this is what show and tell for Hayley has looked like at school.
Week 1: Baby Doll (she said she was taking a beach ball until we got out of the car and school and then decided she wanted to take the Baby Doll instead)
Week 2: Beach Ball (from previous week)
Week 3: Kitchen Whisk (although, this was cut short by pinkeye)
Week 4: Clifford book and stuffed Clifford dog (also cut short by random unexplained stomach issue)
Week 5: 2 locust shells inside a pink princess tupperware container
Week 6: green blanket (what are you going to tell them about your blanket? "that its soft. and I like it")
Week 7: 7 grandparents. Well, not really, they weren't for show and tell but it was grandparents lunch and that's how many Hayley has (counting her great-grands, which we do)...well actually, she has 8, but one was sick and didn't get to go. So, if your kid goes to this same school next year and there is a limit on grandparents, we did that. We apologize.

Tattled
Here's what Hayley has let slip about K3 this week...
"Do you want me to call your mama? If you're bad, the principal comes to spank your hiney!"
"We have dry clothes in bags. In case we tee tee in them. But I not tee tee in my pants. But _________ tee tees in her pants every day. And she not have no more pants."
"alma...matta.... southwest ...georgia....academenia..."
After dance (she didn't finish class because her "tummy was hurtin'")
me: give me your dance clothes so I can wash them.
her: but I didn't dance good in them!

Today
Me: Did you color today?
Hayley: Not in the lines....
Me: You colored in the lines?
Hayley: No, I didn't.
Me: What did you color? What was the picture?
Hayley: Great Big Rainbow. God sent. Means He won't cover the earth with water!
Me = one proud mama
