carry on

let's jump in and totally ignore the over 2 years of radio silence here - I probably should do some kind of "here's what the last year has been like" but at this point - that would probably slant towards something quite ordinary like "our life is INSANE" or something quite common like "we had some good times, we had some bad times" ... so let's just carry on.

Today I sat down and felt like making note of some key adventures in the girl's lives thus far into 2017. I'm making no promises for other entries right away, but for now, this is the closest thing they have to an incomplete childhood scrapbook outside our Shutterfly books. :)

So big things this year so far....

June 6 - Took girls to Braves baseball game at the brand-new SunTrust Park in Atlanta. The significance of visiting a brand new stadium for MLB team was totally lost on these kids as we don't really follow baseball. Michael and I really realized that we don't really follow baseball when NEITHER of us recognized a single name on the roster. However, since any new stadium only has one inaugural season and we got to see them play, TA DA! P.S. Braves lost to Phillies, wah wah wahhhhhh.

June 18- 24 - ADVENTURECATION week.
Key events:
1. We successfully assembled a brand new 8 person tent for the very first time on a campsite with witnesses and no one killed anyone.
2. We successfully slept 6 in that tent for 2 nights and no one killed anyone.
3. We successfully kayaked 9.5 miles of Suwanee River into Manatee Springs State Park, and, get this, no one killed anyone. (although Hayley was quite convinced she was going to perish by manatees (which we didn't even see) or alligators (which were 3 feet or small and visible on a log away from our kayak)
4. Upon returning from kayaking, Bowen pulled her own front tooth out, and we believe that a squirrel nicknamed Mr. McGreedy stole it off the table while we were showering because we caught said squirrel stealing an entire sandwich bag of mix nuts that was too heavy for him to even carry shortly after realizing no one could find the bag with the tooth in it.
5. This is out of order, but in night 1 of our tent camping, we had been all in the tent and quiet for less than 3 minutes when a raccoon we nicknamed Ricky, successfully managed to open a cooler and steal a 14-slice pack of Kraft American Singles. We were unable to locate evidence of Ricky's hiding spot despite our search for cheese wrappers the next day. Ricky did come back on day 2, 3 minutes after the tent was quiet to tip over the plastic bin holding the trash.
6. We survived a 16-hour day at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and no one killed anyone. We honestly had the BEST day, I really wasn't expected it to be as flawless as it was. We only waited in one line for more than 30 minutes at one ride, all others were less than that - AT THE MAGIC KINGDOM IN JUNE - and we were able to:
  • Meet Mickey Mouse
  • Meet Winnie the Pooh & Tigger
  • Meet Tinkerbell
  • Meet Tiana & Rapunzel
  • Meet Cinderella & Elena
  • Ride the Disney Railroad
  • Ride the Magic Carpets of Aladdin
  • Climbed the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse
  • Watch the Enchanted Tiki Room show
  • Ride Splash Mountain (deemed Bowen's favorite)
  • Ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (deemed their least favorite due to the dark scary cave in the beginning)
  • Watch the Country Bear Jamboree
  • Walk through Cinderella's Castle
  • Watch Mickey's PhilharMagic 3D Show
  • Ride "It's a Small World"
  • Be part of the Enchanted Tales with Belle
  • Ride Under the Sea - The Journey of the Little Mermaid
  • Ride the Barnstormer
  • Ride Dumbo the Flying Elephant
  • Ride Mad Tea Party (Big & I sat this one out, no spinning, no thank you)
  • Ride the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Watch the Monster's Inc Laugh Floor
  • Ride the Astro Orbiter
  • Ride Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
  • Watch the Move It & Shake It Parade
  • Watch the Happily Ever After Fireworks Show
I thought that was a crazy amount of stuff to get accomplished!!! The girls loved meeting the characters most of all, but also enjoyed the ride. We did the Souvenir Penny Presses whenever we could so we'd have more permanent "treasures" that didn't totally break the bank!

We also visited Disney Springs and had dinner at Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort - while dinner is VERY EXPENSIVE - the girls got to meet Mickey, Goofy, Minnie, Donald and Pluto and eat a TON of desserts.

It was an awesome week and Breezy and Big went with us. I'm noting all this things down so that if Disney World is a totally different place by the time they are grown we will have it... and so if they ever say they "don't remember", then I am fully prepared.
