stockpile

hi, my name is Meghan...and I'm a "nesting shopper."

I am going out of town for work for tomorrow and Wednesday.... so today I decided I needed to stop by the grocery store for "just the basics" for Michael and the girls... for you know, the next 36 hours when I'm not home...

I bought:
a bunch of bananas
4 lemons
3 apples
bag of grapes
2 boxes of poptarts
2 boxes of breakfast bars
8 packages of chips ahoy (y'all..buy one, get one free...equals buy 8.) (also, they are not for my family as much as me!)
2 cans diced tomatoes
1 plastic jar of spaghetti sauce
a gallon of milk
2 bags of shredded cheese
1 bag of string cheese
1 package sliced cheese
12 pack of sunkist (also for me)
box of cereal
2 boxes of mini nilla wafers (everything is better in mini)
and I think a few other items

Y'all... I'm going to be gone less than 48 hours!

This is slightly ridiculous....

but my crew will NOT be hungry!
So... its been rather quiet here in my tiny corner of the blogosphere since 2012 kicked off... I wish I had some grand conclusion and great symbolic or spiritual or rational reason as to why things have been silent over here...but actually, I don't.

This past few months have been wonky at best... there are a lot of things going on that I don't know how to put into words or that aren't appropriate for discussing in the greater cybersphere at this point in time.

Which doesn't really help y'all out at all in having anything to read that's worthwhile or to know what's happening in our humble abode.

So, hi, my name is Meghan and I came here with nothing to say.

In case you haven't noticed...

....my speciality this week is sharing the words of others.

Read This.
Its a heartfelt letter about "pretty girls"

and.

in a small world twist.

for today

Hi. My name is Meghan.

Today, I am....
overwhelmed.

I need to...
clean out my closet of clothes that I don't like/wear
fold the week's worth of unfolded clothes on my couch
convince someone else to come clean my bathrooms (because I should but really don't want to)

I want to....
take a long nap
not make any major decisions for at least 3 days
have a supper of my choice ready and waiting with no cooking or cleaning up for me/my family for a week

I pray...
that I'm showing enough grace and God to my children
that my witness is a testimony
that my patience and conviction would be strengthened.

I have a sneaking fear that these people are really my people.

escape

well, if I thought I had a story to tell before... do I EVER have one to tell you now!!!

Today was Valentine's Day (thank you Captain Obvious) and we were one of the assigned parent sets to the K3 class party at 2:15. As I load up in my car to make the 10 minute drive there, it won't start. But I retry and push it a little (my daddy taught me well) to get it rolling and back out of my parking space... to go all of 10 feet before the engine light flashes and in the same second the whole thing LOCKS DOWN on me. Like, you can't turn, can't use the gas, engine isn't on...LOCKS DOWN.

And I end up stradling the curb with my nose in the road and my butt in the way. (those are official names for car parts, obviously)

So I call Michael in a PANIC because, hello, on a time schedule here. He talks me into trying to recrank the car and believe it or not, it manages to do so enough for me to get it semi-parked normally next to the car (with the exception of the back right tire who prefers to stay on the curb). But I still can't get to the school. Obviously. So I call my BIL who is closest to me by proximity. No answer. So I walk into the Hospital office and say "my car just died" and I was graciously saved by a co-worker who loaned me their vehicle to get down there and back.

So then I call Michael back and say "ok, what's the plan because I'm not driving this thing tonight or tomorrow and I'm gonna need a way to get home and back to work." So I call Daddy who always has at least one extra vehicle around to see if we can have a loaner until we figure out a plan.

Then Daddy calls back to ask if he should bring the trailer from BR and that he'd get the "loaner" ready for me. He also goes on for 10 minutes about some "code reader" gadget thing that is going to tell us exactly what is wrong with the thing.

So then Michael calls to see what the plan is.... and then Mama calls because she wants to know what's up with the car and when I tell her what the plan is, she says "Well, let me call him because I don't wanna be missing a party!" (um, hello...when did DEAD CAR constitute party??)

Then Michael calls back. Saw a car at a lot in Blakely. Can you check it online? Mischa is waiting with girls at Dance Studio. He's is doubling back to test drive car.

Michael calls with more details on car and questions on values online.

Michael calls back, does he need to get a trailer?

Daddy calls, he's here with trailer and gadget tool.

So I text Michael back for a "no go" on trailer.

(all the while I'm still in my office at work trying to have a conversation actually pertaining to...imagine it, work)

So Daddy does the gadget thing and  it tells us nothing.

It's still doing the weird cranking bu. t not working thing.

Then Daddy "resets the codes" and the car starts working.

Then I stand there baffled but still refusing to get back in it and drive it.

We load it up and have the "party" Breezy was waiting on.

Michael and I make the trip over to check out the car he test drove.

I think its a keeper.

But here's the thing, y'all, and its a big, big, big GOD thing.

About 6 months ago we started talking about upgrading my car. I wanted another Escape, but I was willing to look at other models. Michael wanted at least a 2005 model and low mileage. I test drove a Tahoe that I liked, but we couldn't jive on price. We've continued to look for Escapes for the past few months. NONE. None have hit the lots around (other than brand news which are not what we wanted to do). When I called Michael today, his co-worker said "Looks like you'll be buying a big red valentine present this year."

The Escape that we test drove today:
Red.
Just appeared on lot.
2006 model.
65K miles
Within price point.

That my friends, is a straight up God thing.

Because my car has been a little wonky for months....but TODAY it quit. We've been looking without asking dealers to look for us, and we've seen NONE. And TODAY there was a car that matched everything we were looking for on the LOT in OUR TOWN. Within the first 2 hours from when my car died.

Y'all.

That is megabig.

All that I didn't do... for Valentine's

Here's some of the cute things I saw online this year for Valentine's Day.....

Obviously, I didn't accomplish any of them and sent boxed cards from the dollar store with tiny tattoos and gift bags stuffed with "smalls" from Oriental Trading and the candy aisle. I did however do my part in the class party at school...so there!

(if you are a regular reader, all 20 of you, this is going to be a random interruption of what I'm calling "Failure to Blog 2012" )
(this is me (the blonde in the white shirt/black sweater) and my family...
sister/BIL, mom & dad, my husband & our girls and my nephew)
and yes, this is the most recent photo I have of myself in any function...I spend most of my time behind the camera instead!

Hi. I'm Meghan... a working mom, whose work has made her a whole FOUR days late on joining in the Linky with Kelly! I spent the better part of last week out of town with work (a new development this year) so I'm a few days late and bit more scrambled to get this out and linked up! But, let's carry on...

Greetings from Southwest Georgia for any of you who find your way over!

I'm the mom of 2 girls (going on 2 & 4) and full-time working mama. (Meet my family here)  I've worked through both my pregnancies and through the first years of my girls' lives. I'm also the wife of a bi-vocational minister (which is fancy smancy talk for being the pastor's wife at a small church with a husband who also works outside of the church full-time as well). I'm an internet junkie by default (I blame it on facebook coming out while I was in college)... I love taking pictures, looking at other's photography, and mocking my hugely large mostly-functional, but ever-entertaining family dynamics, reading and sleeping whenever I get the opportunity to. I am not the best commentor on blogs that I read, but if I follow you, I'm reading every one of your posts, I just always feel weird commenting often when I don't have something specific to throw out toward the conversation)

Being a stay-at-home has crossed our discussions many times, both as a "dad role" and a "mom role" but for us in this season, bringing home 2 incomes is helping stabilize our family today and in the times to come (because who knows what God has planned for us next!). It can certainly be exhausting and stressful and require a lot of energy be spent away from our family, but we've both been blessed with pretty flexible bosses who let us off for all things related to our girls. We are also super blessed with a super large and super closeby family network that is able to help us with the running around and schedule arranging. Our daughters have never stayed anywhere except with family and an local in-home daycare, so they don't even know what a babysitter is!

When I'm doing better at blogging (which is obviously not the case for 2012), you'll find stories of my life, my girls, my family...southern culture, some Pinterest loves, and just general hooplah from my general direction. Check out the labels on the side of this page for my frequent content categories!

Thanks for coming, and let me know you stopped by!

welcome little one

Andrew Paxton,
Welcome to this wild life of yours! In our family, everybody makes a grand entrance and you didn't disappoint!

On Tuesday at 5, we were told you would be here on Friday most likely. On Tuesday at 9, we were told your Mom & Dad were headed back to the hospital for observation. On Wednesday morning, we were told you were coming that day, via induction that afternoon. On Wednesday at 3, we found out you were coming in 1 hour via c-section. By Wednesday at 4:20, you were here.... and all of us, well, we were everywhere else!

We got to the hospital to see you in the nursery...beyond an fortress of glass and locked doors where we couldn't get to you. We knew it would be a while before your Mom would be out of recovery so we went to eat (like all hungry people do!)...when we got back we knew we'd get our hands on you and our eyes on your Mama (to tell her how brave and good she did...its what you do you know). But we got a big fat NO from the staff and let me tell you little one, that did not go over well at all.

See this family of ours? We're loud and large.... and we are a whole heard of Mama Bears when the littlest of cubs comes into the picture.. . we didn't take it to well, that we couldn't get to either of you. And don't think we didn't try... but, I tell you that to tell you this...

Little Man,  You are fiercly loved.

Even though you couldn't hear the commotion there was a whole crowd of Mama Bears fighting for you and your Mama in that waiting room and viewing area. This fierce love is here for life... its gonna be loud, and crazy, and at every major and minor milestone in your life... it'll involve pats and pinches and talks of who is the favorite and who is the great favorite...and trust me, if I tried to explain it all, even when you are old enough, it would overwhelm you.

So you see, even as you rest now in your Mama's arms...cuddled away in the safety of that hospital room... you, little man, have a long life of giving and getting sugars and love and all that comes with all of us... and believe it or not, the crazy seems to make it all work out just right.
